Treatment Philosophy

Seeking help to cope with life's obstacles demonstrates courage, which is a necessary characteristic to lead a more productive life. I view therapy as a collaborative process to help navigate issues and confront challenges in a healthy manner but also to not overlook the strengths that may lie beneath the burdens of pain. Adding both balance and full perspective on a situation allows and empowers us to manage with efficiency and clarity. While my role is to guide through such challenges, I believe that we all are the authors and experts of our own lives and can make changes to benefit us when presented with useful tools. To cultivate personal growth, we must give ourselves the permission to exist beyond perceived shortcomings.

Areas of Expertise & Interest

My therapeutic approach is based in cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, and client-centered, although the techniques I use are specific to each person. In therapy, I challenge individuals to self-reflect, apply what we discuss, set realistic goals, and to go beyond the surface of the presenting issue. Through an empathic and direct counseling style, my experience is in anxiety, stress management, depression, self-esteem, acculturation, and life transitions to guide toward living emotionally healthy lives.

In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, decorating, reading, practicing new languages, and being with family and friends.

Experience & Training

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). I completed my Bachelor’s degree with honors at Roosevelt University with a major in Psychology and a minor in Sociology. I earned my Master’s degree in Clinical Counseling and my PhD in International Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. I have worked in various environments in the field, including universities, hospitals, and employee assistance programs as well as traveled internationally to collaborate with institutions on expanding access to therapy. I have worked with children and adults individually and in groups as well as in-person and in telehealth. Additionally, I have attended seminars on anxiety and depression and published articles and books on these and other topics as well. I have also led workshops on mindfulness meditation and emotional intelligence.
